I wrote a poem in my sleep
Each phrase, each rhyme, all true
The dream was one I wished to keep
If just to prove to you
Though the power of sleep, so vast and deep
Somnambulance withstands
To rise and write, its worth to reap
I could not move my hands.

GRAMMARIANS: “Each phrase and rhyme WAS”, or “Each phrase and rhyme WERE”…..?

It would probably be “were”, in Oxford English, but “was” scans better in my mind – I would prefer Each phrase, each rhyme so true, or is true, or something! Tough question tho, I’m kind of against the use of the word “Was” its not the most beautiful word is it? Maybe convert the whole thing to French! 😀
