The Woody Allen Dilemma.

Dilemma.

Most won’t associate the term “dilemma” with Woody Allen (except Woody, himself ). Some will condemn and dismiss him, out of hand. Others will just shun the mention of his name.

Have you seen any Woody Allen movies?

I still love his entire film anthology. After so many years, and so much press I, still, staunchly regard him as a singular – possibly the best – cinematic commentator on the adult human social condition within the dynamics of relationship across multiple generations.

And, Woody Allen is alleged to be either a pedophile or a sexual abuser.

Do I condone such criminal behavior? No. I do not.

What I find myself unable to do is attach the criminal to the artistic masterpieces which are borne of his astutely creative mind. I regard them distinctly, as if one is neither informed by nor related to the other.

Whence does my “inability” arise?

Could it be one of so many dogmae injected into my cellular nuclei, from childhood — God will make good out of evil? Don’t shoot the messenger?

And, is this why innumerable throngs of upstanding citizens forgive (or, ignore) Donald J. Trump’s distinctive, and staggering, character failings? Or, why I am enamored of several policy suggestions emanating from one otherwise seriously maligned Robert F. Kennedy, Jr?

Most of my essays are too long winded for many of the social media set. But, this is important, so I’ll stop right here.

You answer the questions posed.
I would – but, as you already realize: I can’t.

It’s my dilemma.
